We will provide a little more information on some commercial fencing options.
If you drive around business parks you will typically see palisade fencing in Cardiff. This is the most common an well known types of security fencing mostly due to its intimidating appearance.
The construction of palisade fencing involves the fixing of vertical metal bars being fixed to several horizontal metal bars. The metal will almost always be made from cold rolled galvanised steel. The galvanisation provide resistance to rust and stiffens the metal to provide a robust bar which is relatively thin.
The reason Palisade fencing is so well known is that it is very recognisable. The tops of the vertical bars are designed to look intimidating and the pronged tops mean that it is very difficult to simply grab the bars and lift yourself up and over a palisade fence. Different manufacturers may have subtle variations to the tops of the bars such as a single spike or a split triple spike, often referred to as a 'W' topped palisade bar which is more likely to cause an intruder to snag their clothes if attempting to climb over.
Other variations will involve the colour of the fence. Often the galvanised finish will be used but for some businesses they may wish to have a power coated finish which represents their corporate colours while other choose the most popular colour of green to make the fencing more discreet by blending it into the surrounding bushes and trees.
We can erect palisade fencing on virtually any surface with heights of reaching up to 3 metres from the ground.
Whilst security mesh fencing in Cardiff may not be as widespread as Palisade fencing it does have some advantages over palisade fencing, which may not be obvious simply by looking at the two fence types side by side.
Mesh fencing can provide a very hard fence to climb - especially the high security variants which have very small gaps that are too small for fingers to fit in and therefore provide no means of generating a grip on the fence. Whilst it may not look as fearsome as palisade fencing an opportunist will soon realise that trying to climb a mesh fence is extremely difficult.
The make up of a mesh fence is that the mesh comprises on much thinner metal rods and as a result much more light and gaps are visible through the fence making it much more aesthetic than palisade fencing especially for public areas such as parks and in facilities such as schools and residential homes. Staff resident nor pupils want to feel that they are in a dangerous or confining environment which a palisade fence in more likely to convey.
The higher 'see through' levels of a mesh fence also mean that that will be more effective a part of a total security system which would incorporate CCTV as the cameras will be able to capture more imagery beyond the fence perimeter which would be much more difficult with palisade fencing.
Here is a recent installation of a V mesh security fence we installed for a small business in Cardiff. As you can see with this mesh fencing it is fairly discreet, so that the tress and greenery is still visible but the property has a clear boundary fence.
Depending on your chosen finish of commercial railings will often mean that these are simply a means of creating a boundary to your property rather than creating a security focussed fence. Most metal railings will be made of vertical bars mounted on 2 or more horizontal bars. The vertical bars will be more tubular than palisade fencing so will be much easier to climb compared to mesh or palisade fencing but will provide a more decoratively appealing boundary marking so only provide a low security function. To remain hard wearing this will often be galvanised and finished in a power coat often in black or green to remain discrete.
It is fairly common for commercial fencing to become damaged not as you may think from potential intruders braking the fence to try and get through, although this does happen on occasion, but mostly by vehicles, especially where your fence surrounds a busy warehouse operation. Large vehicles will sometimes need to make awkward manoeuvres if there are other works going on and the usual drive route has been compromised for some reason. Whilst large vehicles will be fitted with reverse sensors which should pick up a mesh or palisade fence there will be instances when the reverse sensors simply fail or perhaps are not accurate enough, as dirt has not been cleared from them and they are simply blocked.
Whilst this can be frustrating often the damage will be contained to just a few sections of fencing. Fortunately most fences are built up using sections of fencing and security fencing is no different. If this happens simply get in touch as our team of commercial fencing specialists can inspect your fence and see what replacements will be necessary to get it back to its best. We'll do our best to get the repairs done as quickly as possible with minimum fuss and disruption and can cover almost all types of security fence.
Need Help?
The most common type of commercial security fencing in the UK is palisade fencing. For the security of large industrial or commercial properties, this type of fencing is designed to be intimidating as well as difficult to scale should someone decide to try and climb it. It also cannot be cut through easily with bold cutters, unlike chain fencing. It can be finished in a number of powder coat colours so can be a little more decorative than just a plain galvanised metal finish.
As mentioned, we have years of experience in fencing and good relationships with suppliers so where you need a complete palisade fence or a small repair we should be able to get your boundary fence sorted for your business with minimal disruption.
In the UK, the maximum height for a palisade fence without planning permission is 2 metres (6 feet 6 inches) if it is located next to a highway used by vehicles or 1 metre (3 feet 3 inches) if it is not next to a highway. However, local planning authorities can have different restrictions, so it is always advisable to check with your local council before briefing us - especially if you are located on a private industrial estate where higher fencing can generally be errected.
The difference is quite subtle and in most cases only a few percent difference in compositions. Composite as the name implies is composed of more than one material. Most composites only use 2 main materials: plastic and wood. The wood will only be a few percent of the total and is essentially very small wood chippings, almost dust which is added to the UPVC in the manufacturing process. Since a pure plastic or UPVC fence panel is only made up with UPVC it will commonly be referred to as plastic fencing although the reality is that they are very very similar. Both will often be made using recycled plastic and wood respectively and since they will last a lot longer once installed, there is a good argument regarding total environmental benefits since you won't use repeated resources replacing them a much as you would for a wooden equivalent.
